this morning when i was getting ready for work... i found a little stack of tiny notebooks... with pretty covers and little pages... notebooks with newsprint pages... some with graph paper... covers of red leather... or moustache and monacle print... one of my recent favorites has a metallic tree bark cover... these tiny notebooks serve as catch-alls for music obsessions... when i brought laundry down... i stepped into my studio... and found another stack of tiny notebooks... one with the empire state building on the front... one with an old album sleeve... a short stack of post it notes... one i made at sxsw in the etsy tent... with yoko and john on the front- walking down to the end of a dock... at my desk at work is a red flower pot... where i keep my pens... a giant crayon... and three more little notebooks. one with a goldleaf cover... on miniature composition book... and stack of scrap paper that's simply stapled on one edge. i wonder what this tiny notebook obsession says about me? or my need to constantly jot down songs for later listening? my grandma had an obsession of journaling daily. now, as an adult, looking through these journals i realize that her accounts are nothing more than daily minutia... "went to lessons" "made dinner" "took kids to school" ... you could read stacks and stacks of my grandma's notebooks (usually those yellow steno pads) and find very few personal reflections. i always wondered why she did it... if she was going to keep track of everything... why wouldn't she comment on it? was it purely for record keeping's sake? or was she simply obsessed with it. like i am... with my stupid song notebooks.

and 500000 others in other notebooks... that might just get lost and the organizing leads to what? more organizing? playlists? cd? it's interesting trying to pin down something you can't really at all. music. anyway. i've been staring at these tiny notebooks all day thinking... what the hell? i guess i realized i have a habit and i don't remember how it started.

last night's opening reception at covet was really special. it was nice because it felt really cozy. maybe it was the cookies... or being surrounded by furniture and candles... but it was one of my favorites in recent memory. i had time to talk to some really awesome people and meet some new and interesting folks. the show is up for the remainder of the month and into part of november if you didn't have a chance to stop by last night... there's still time... covet's a great find! neat stuff and great prices!

i am dropping things off for the ruff love dogs show on sunday... i found a giant canvas i'd forgotten i had... so i hope to use that on sunday. here's the promo poster...

Here's what I am working on now... 

i've been working on new pieces for the pine city show... having a lot of fun with these small paintings.

yesterday was the first day of the "winter chill" feeling this year. i worked on a few things for my upcoming shows. i have been really busy at work lately, taking on more duties than usual... and life gets busy... but i still found time to work up some new things for these fall shows.  i am finishing pieces this morning and hanging Covet this afternoon. i've been fighting a terrible cold for about 3 weeks now. i think i won. but my ribs hurt from coughing. maybe that means i will be healthy for the rest of the winter. The Covet opening is this Thursday. 


Covet will be featuring a different artist every month with the opening falling on the SECOND THURSDAY of the month! SECOND THURSDAYS = look at some art, meet the current featured artist and shop home goods!

Covet will be featuring the acrylic paintings of local artist Jennifer Sandquist. This show titled, "Vintage Roadtrip," will focus on roadside americana imagery.

I am also excited to announce I will be doing a one night show at Ruff Love Dogs, October 28th 4-8pm and a solo show at Pine City Center For The Arts, November 9th. 
I'm excited because my mom will be coming to that show. The first time she'll be in attendance at one of my openings. I'll post more information about those openings in the coming weeks.
